Archival Restoration

We learned many processes of upgrade and restoration from our considerable depth in film post production - digital and otherwise - and our love of great Cinema. In time these areas of experiences lead us add restoration of film and TV classics in addition to our ongoing new productions. From our inception we were always evolving our knowledge of and experimentation in, new capacities in post production. Our first restoration work proper started on our own works, about 30 films and scripted TV drama going as far back as to the late  1970s in super-16, 35MM and diverse formats. A chance meeting with John Frizzel a co-writer and co-director of the 1983 classic, challenging Winter Tan (staring the inestimable Jackie Burroughs).  https://starfieldcreatorco.com/portfolio_page/a-winter-tan/  That casual conversation soon lead to a decision to re-introducing the film turned into a discussion of - where can we find a good print? That wasn't so easy. Eventually with the help of National Archives Canada  we got our hands on two old faded, scratched super-16mm theatrical prints, but no trace of the original negatives. Hence our first shot a restoring a third party classic. Working closely with Eggplant Pictures and Sound we ultimately restored two new digital masters, one for theatrical projection, the other for streaming services. The carefully restored soundtrack, from scratched, mono optical release prints is truly brought back to great quality (hat's off to Bruce Fleming at Eggplant Sound). The restored Premier was held by TIFF in a special event at the Bell Lightbox in Toronto. In Europe the restored film was projected at the Edinburg Fringe and gone into North American Streaming. It was an encouraging start. Restoration and Archival work also meant one had to track the rights and often re-build long-lost chain of title documentation of works we were restoring. After all, a show needs a legal and exploitable...

Starfield CreatorCo Signs Distribution Deal with Shout! Factory for the Re-Launch of Starhunter REDUX

TORONTO – Starfield CreatorCo, a Toronto-based science fiction film and television production company, is pleased to announce it has signed a distribution deal with the Shout! Factory, a leading multi-platform media company, for its popular science fiction television series, Starhunter REDUX, now available on Amazon Prime in the US and UK.   Starfield CEO Philip Jackson made the announcement at the recent Toronto International Film Festival held here in September. The distribution deal provides Shout! Factory with all media rights in North America.   “There couldn’t be a better distributor for us than SHOUT Factory,” said Jackson. “Their identification with the markets that our audiences live in is a robust but particular kind of demographic. No one is better positioned to maximize the exploitation of this 44-episode sci-fi classic than Shout! Factory.”   The release of the series in 2000 created a loyal, if cult-like fan base over the years and now subscribers to Amazon prime in the US and the UK can watch all 44 fully-restored episodes, many of which boast new footage. Missing or censored content was re-shot from scratch in half of the episodes. This involved writing an additional story arc that entailed having actors 20 years older meeting their former selves in green-screened interaction.   The current re-launch of the two-season series on Amazon Prime includes a daily social media campaign showcasing episode previews and never-before-seen production stills from the show as well as behind-the-scenes. The media roll-out began in August and continues today on Starhunter’s popular platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Reddit.   FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: Mark Terry, Director of Communications, Starfield CreatorCo Email: markterryatyorku@gmail.com Tel: 416-899-5855 MEDIA ASSETS: Pictures, interviews, and video previews available upon request.   BACKGROUNDER: ABOUT Starfield CreatorCo Starfield Independent Studios Inc. dba “Starfield CreatorCo”, is a creative Toronto/London studio with partners in Munich, Hong Kong, UK and France. Starfield CreatorCo In-Person Meetings at TIFF 2025

[vc_row row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" text_align="left" css_animation="" box_shadow_on_row="no"][vc_column][vc_column_text] Welcome to TIFF 2025, Starfield CreatorCo is attending the Industry side - doing finance, co-production, and sales of astonishing new content. Five  new projects stand out: We present, near fully-financed science fiction.  A 10 x 1-hour  series SolSys. 10 episodes, scripts and development completed. Briefly:   A science fiction saga from a future gone way off-script. The Context: In the post-AI transhumanist sprawl of SolSys, civilizations hum along with suspiciously gleaming smiles. Think equal parts authoritarian nanny-state and all-night rave. Think a blend of military protocol and sensual absurdity. Society isn’t just post-human. It’s post-sanity in a designer jumpsuit. The story: Enter the Shylagh Na Gig, a long-haul freighter captained by the brave, if contrary, Reggie Cornet.  Reggie and her crew of AIs, humans, semi-human hybrids all qualify as misfits, but each have their own slashes of brilliance and uniqueness. Enter Major Schull, Reggie’s ex-lover-slash-reality-warping war scientist. He commandeers her ship, a prisoner in tow. Schull has a cryptic directive, and the kind of sociopathic edge that those with just the right emotional damage find irresistible. The prisoner? Sister Nine, a sin-eating war criminal blessed with weapons-grade theology.  She’s due to stand trial on Saturn’s moon Rhea.  But in SolSys, nothing unfolds as due. Sabotage hits the ship from within: first by interference planted in the ship’s nav-sys, then by genetically altered insects and suddenly, no one’s en-route to Saturn anymore. No, we’re plunging towards a cloaked black hole at the edge of the Oort Cloud – and that’s when things start to get weird. Sister Nine escapes her hold via quantum mischief, fluctuating out of her cell. She cracks open portals to alt-universes, commits atrocities in the name of divine purpose, and leaves reality looking like a glitchy art installation. Schull? He’s got a competing endgame in mind, showing along the way how...
